I think the Scion’s with the OE xA Wheel Covers are the cutest things. I see them on the street and sometimes I wish my Mom would’ve bought me that car instead of a 4 Runner – do you know how much money I could have saved on gas?
It was first released in 2003 by Toyota; they thought this was going to be a way to “connect to younger buyers”. From what I see, people of all ages drive Scion’s with xA Wheel Covers on them – so, I think it did better than they expected? The xA is a hatchback that obviously isn’t expensive and is a car of all its own style – and that’s how it was marketed.
People who bought the car could have accessorized it with more than about 30 accessories that were available at Scion dealerships.. which were probably also Toyota dealerships.
It was launched as a 2004 model and only lasted one generation – too bad, I would’ve liked to see an improved version of the car & the xA Wheel Covers. There were some minor changes when it came out in 2006 (which was the final year it was released). The models that were released previously had some visual differences and some minor changes to the inside of the car. The newer model had things like the Pioneer sound system, it had a different steering wheel, a speedometer and different seat fabric.
Out of the three years it was released, it only came in one body style: it was a a four-door hatchback. If you wanted it in a subcompact, the xA had a more deluxe look and a more upper-class feel when you drove it and even when you sat in it. There was a “gauge pod” (if you k now what that is) that was placed smack dab in the center of the dash and glowed an amber color. Even though the dashboard had like a contemporary appearance, there was some type of alloy finish that was designed for the trim and the center console – even the steering wheel. You would’ve had a high seating position and some pretty decent and acceptable leg room for the front and back seats; not to mention you had some ravishing xA Wheel Covers to finish it up.
The car was even great when it came to standard features. It had the basic air conditioning, antilock brakes, power locks, windows, and mirrors, a rear windshield wiper, and even a rear window defogger – I have one of those, but I’m not so sure it works anymore.. or at all. It also gave drivers a premium stereo: a sound system that had a CD/MP3 player and an auxiliary input jack where people can plug in their iPod! There were optional features like the 8-inch subwoofer, the iPod adapter, and a satellite radio option.
What options would you add? Would you add anything different? Would you just take things off? Are there things that you wish that they made so that you can put on your car? What about the xA Wheel Covers – would you leave them silver or paint them a different color? So many options, I know.
